This is a tool designed for cutting capillary tubing and optical fiber. The goal of the cleaving stone is to penetrate through the polyimide and impart a sub-micron defect into the outer glass surface. When using this tool once a defect is generated, applying linear tension to the defect separates the capillary or optical fiber. Matching cleave quality to application requirements is essential. A poor cleave generates excessive glass debris inside the capillary which can lead to internal flaws and subsequent breakage. When used properly this cleaver will generate a clean cut every time.
